Events Announced for @Rock_Hall Induction Week in April

When the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum opened in Cleveland in 1995, the New York-based board that controlled the inductions kept the annual ceremony in New York, a fairly unprecedented move for a Hall of Fame of any type. Eventually, it was agreed to bring the event to Cleveland on an every-third-year basis — and this is the year.

Clevelanders will have the opportunity to see the 2015 class — Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The 5 Royales , Green Day, Joan Jett (pictured) and the Blackhearts, Lou Reed, Ringo Starr, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, and Bill Withers — join the previous inductees in the gala at Public Hall Sat 4/18 @ 8PM.

But presenting the inductions in the Hall of Fame city, as every other Hall of Fame organization does, gives the Rock Hall the chance to do something most other Halls of Fame do as well: plan a series of public special events to create an induction week that’s an attraction for visitors. (By way of a benchmark, Canton’s Football Hall of Fame week in August is said to draw almost a quarter of its annual visitors).

Rock Hall Induction week will take place from Sat 4/11-Sat 4/18. It will include concerts, special exhibits and something Clevelanders love even more than rock and roll — a fireworks show.

The Rock ’N Blast Firework Show will kick off the week, following a free admission day at the Rock Hall with live performances, food vendors, the opening of the exhibit devoted to the new inductees. The fireworks show at 7pm will feature inductee-themed music.

On Sun 4/12 @ 7:30pm at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre, gospel star Andraé Crouch will be honored in a performance called Rock My Soul: A Gospel Music Celebration, with a lineup of big-name gospel performers including Marvin Winans, CeCe Winans and Donnie McClurkin. The event is free with a reservation. They’ll be available to Rock Hall members Mon 3/9 @ 10am and others Tue 3/10 @11am at the PlayhouseSquare box office.

On Tue 2/14 @ 8pm, the next edition of the Rock Hall’s Sonic Sessions will take place, featuring indie rock duo Foxygen and Alex Cameron. Tickets are $5.50 from the Rock Hall’s box office.

Those who didn’t get or can’t afford a ticket to be at Public Hall for the inductions, can come down at the Rock Hall and watch the entire thing, uncut with all the long, boring industry shout-outs and milling around between segments you don’t see in the televised version, on a giant screen in the lobby as well as other large screens throughout the building. Tickets are $22. Rock Hall members can snag them starting Mon 2/23; the general public can scoop them up on Tue 2/24 by going to the Rock Hall box office online.

Will the fireworks be staged at the Rock Hall(behind, next to) or public hall…thinking this would be a cool photo op!
