Akron Rock Legends Bizarros and Half Cleveland Perform @AkronCivic

Half_Cleveland-Musica2014

Fri 2/6 @ 8PM

The ’70s underground music scene in Akron has achieved legendary status among those who have never gotten any nearer to Akron than thousands of miles away. With artists like Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, Devo and Rachel Sweet getting radio airplay and others like Tin Huey, the Bizarros, the Rubber City Rebels, Hammer Damage and Chi Pig grabbing adulatory press, it really seemed like something was going on in the Rubber City. Some of the music was disseminated by Clone Records, the Akron-based label started by Bizarros singer Nick Nicholis.

If you weren’t there the Akron Civic Theater’s Club @ the Civic series is giving you a chance to experience it with what they are billing as a Clone Records Reunion. The Bizarros, with their Velvet Underground-influence glam punk sound, will be co-headlining, with Half Cleveland (pictured), a contemporary ensemble led by two former Tin Huey members, Chris Butler (also of the Waitresses) and Harvey Gold. They’ve got a couple of new releases to promote Half Cleveland Live at the Wi-Fi Café and Butler’s Easy Life.

Tickets are $15.
