It’s supposed to warm up by the weekend, good news for the sixth annual Brite Winter Fest, much of which takes place outdoors.

It’s the fourth year the festival will take place in Ohio City around the area of W. 25th and Lorain, with a couple of big outdoor stages — one in Market Square Park and one in a parking lot a half block west, both with the large bonfires Brite Winter fans have come to expect — and indoor stages at seven nearby businesses: Room Service, Mitchell’s Ice Cream, Old Angle Tavern, Nano Brew, Great Lakes Brewing Tasting  Room, Townhall and Market Avenue Wine Bar.

The biggest change this year is that virtually all the performers are local, while the past several years have mixed up local, regional and even a few national acts. But it’s one of the strongest lineups yet, demonstrating that you don’t have to go far to find great bands and musicians in a variety of genres in northeast Ohio.

The 60 acts include headliners Chicago’s Maps and Atlases from Chicago, Sun City from Baltimore, and  locals Welshly Arms, the Modern Electric and Cobra Verde.

Brite Winter 2015 will offer indie music fans the chance to see some of the city’s biggest buzz artists as well as some outstanding groups who have flown under most people’s radar. They range from pop-rockers like These Knees to newgrass band Honeybucket to country traditionalist Charles Hill Jr. to punk band Lawskof to classic folkie Tom Evanchuck to hip hoppers Smoke Noises.

Other highlights should include By Light We Loom featuring Shanna Delaney and Eric Ling formerly of folk-rockers Bethesda, powerful singer/songwriter/rocker Morgan Mecaskey, the vocal manipulations of Uno Lady, sassy cabaret act Miss Alexandra Huntington and the symphonic pop of Cities & Coasts.

The festival will also include art displays and other activities — and it’s all free.

The music schedule with times and venues is here.
