Can we say our region’s recent successes are more about creativity than the economy? Whether it’s bike friendly lofts at the West Side Community House, or Brite Winter’s Thomas Fox kicking off CreativeMornings every 3rd Friday, you don’t have to look far to see NEO’s creatives starting something new.

Create your own zen with beer at Balance & Brews, grok the strange treasures of Tesori Strani at Moonstruck Gallery, express yourself with the new County Executive, help homeless animals at the Soup-R-Bowl, and revel in the 2-day, 40th Annual Sci-Fi Marathon.

Alex helps you create the perfect resume and Mansfield creates a new phrase, “The American Pigmentocracy” to describe the new system we appear to be living under. What are you creating this week? –Thomas Mulready

Now he’s bringing CreativeMornings to CLE, a breakfast lecture series for the creative class.

“It winds up being this on-going creative conference with really creative people from all over the world talking…the concept is this one global theme per month, or relating to the the theme or having the person talk about this theme and the conversation is ongoing, regional and global,” says Fox…

Of course there’s exceptions, especially if you’ve built yourself a nice media platform, but unless there’s something magical about you, keep it short. Here’s why…

Another of the dirty little secrets of policing in America is the underreporting by police departments — in many instances on a vast scale — of crimes committed within a jurisdiction. One of the primary reasons has to do with property values…

More coverage from Mansfield Frazier:

* Depraved: The cool and calculated indifference displayed by officer Tim Loehmann after he’d fired what would prove to be fatal shots into the torso of 12-year-old Tamir Rice is beyond shocking… it clearly crosses the line into depravity…

* The American Pigmentocracy: The squabble over which law enforcement agencies will be involved in the investigation of the Tamir Rice killing speaks volumes in regards to levels of public trust — or lack thereof — in every aspect of police-involved shootings…

* Black Cops Finally Speak Out: The conclusions drawn from a Dec. 23 article by Michelle Conlin, writing for Reuters, was as predictable — at least for me and probably many other African Americans — as the sun coming up in the morning..

* Cops Rule!: As solutions to the manner in which police shootings of young black males are increasingly being discussed by legal minds (due mainly to the nationwide protests for change, unfortunately not out of some sense of fair play or equal justice under the law), attention is being focused on our broken criminal justice system in general, and the grand jury process in particular….

Observing the hysteria emanating from both the local and national media surrounding the “diminishing skills” of LeBron James and the correspondent “collapse” of the Cleveland Cavaliers as title contenders has once again provided a sobering insight into the silliness and stupidity abounding in the diversionary world of sports in general and Cleveland sports in particular…
