Celebrate Reggae Legend Bob Marley’s 70th Birthday @GrogShop

Thu 2/5 @ 7PM

The late Bob Marley’s spirit infuses almost every reggae artist performing today. He was not only one of the music’s pioneers, he was also among its greatest and most distinctive stylists, and he did more than almost anyone to bring reggae to the awareness of international audiences and to rock and roll fans. You may hate reggae but if you listen to music at all you probably know such Marley classics as “No Woman, No Cry,” “Stir It Up,” “Get Up, Stand Up,” and “I Shot the Sheriff,” a hit for Eric Clapton.

Naturally, for Cleveland’s most devoted reggae promoter Packy Malley, Marley’s birthday is a time for celebration. Marley, who died in 1981 at the age of 36, would have been 70 on February 6. So a day earlier Malley has put together an event at the Grog Shop that will feature live music from Columbus’ Ark Band, Organik Sounds DJ Soundsystem, Marley movies, reggae-themed vendors and Jamaican food by Bratenahl Kitchen.

Admission is $5 and comes with a terrific little bonus: a free ticket to the Winter Reggae Fest with Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band and the Ark Band at the House of Blues Fri 2/13.
