Bike NEO

Counterintuitively, there’s an awful lot going on this time of year in NEO’s biking world. CC correspondent John Benson gets the heads up from Bike Cleveland Executive Director Jacob VanSickle on the topics to be covered at their annual meeting this week.

CVNP gets $249K to build trails, incl their first mountain bike trails. This is huge. Of course, there’s more to life here than biking in January. A tsunami of dance sweeps into town as the National Conference and Festival of the International Association of Blacks in Dance lands on two feet. There’s new releases by Ohio Sky & John Kalman. Steve Schimoler of Crop Bistro invades the Music Box’s kitchen, then its stage. Laura Varcho lights up the new Blu Jazz in Akron.

And for those of us who bike year round, we ride outdoors when possible, or at Ray’s Indoor MTB, where Sunday is BMX night. New shops like Beat Cycles in Lakewood cater to the bike commuter. Check our exclusive Biking listings in our comprehensive ShopLOCAL section, easily accessible on any device, mobile, desktop or laptop. Just not while you’re biking. –Thomas Mulready
