No one expects high school bands to last but the Modern Electric is thriving nearly seven years after they won the 2008 High School Rock Off. The quartet’s theatrical, keyboard-heavy music, which they call “cinematic pop,” has attracted increasing audiences around the region, and the band has started to do some serious touring, including a show at Austin’s mega-music conference South by Southwest in March.

We hear they have a new album in the pipeline. In the meantime, they’ve got a new video for their catchiest and most memorable song “David Bowie Save Us All.”

They’ll headline the Beachland Ballroom with this pre-Christmas show featuring one of the area’s most powerful singer/songwriter/musicians Morgan Mecaskey, who released her latest album, Lover Less Wild, at the beginning of this month. Cleveland-bred, Columbus-based soulful rock quintet the Floorwalkers are also on the bill.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
