Mr. Gnome makes such a beautiful, unsettling racket. The Chardon-based duo — drummer/keyboardist/ vocalist Sam Meister and vocalist/guitarist Nicole Barille —  released their fourth album The Heart of a Dark Star last month, and they just keep upping the ante.

They’ve created another dark, dreamy masterpiece, sculpting a sonic journey whose restlessly morphing music echoes the surreal dislocation of their lyrics, with each tune its own little unexplored piece of the ether. Not like anyone else in the local music scene (or much of anywhere else), they should be seen live to be fully appreciated, although The Heart of a Dark Star is a riveting accomplishment.

On the heels of the album’s release, they headed out on the road for another swing across the country in November and early December. But they always head home for the holidays ready to share their music with local fans at their annual pre-Christmas show at the Beachland Ballroom.

Akron’s If These Tree Could Talk, who just signed with Metal Blade Records and did some regional dates earlier this month with Mr. Gnome, and Cleveland’s Ohio Sky, who will release their new album in January, open.

Leah Lou & the 2 Left Shoes play in the Tavern before and after sets starting at 7:30pm.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Hurry; their shows are almost always sellouts. And get their early. This is one killer lineup of local talent.
