It’s time to think about stocking the pantry for your upcoming seasonal get-togethers and several area farmers markets are ready with their holiday markets. Most also offer things like jewelry, T-shirts, lotions and soaps, and other gift-types items made by local craftspeople. Food makes a great gift too, especially for that friend who isn’t really into “stuff.” Instead, give them a distinctive salsa, flavored oil, honey made by local bees, or some of Saucisson’s artisan smoked meats (pictured).

The Gordon Square Market’s holiday market takes place Sat 12/13 from 10am-3pm in the Gordon Square Arcade at W. 65th and Detroit. Expect nearly two dozen vendors of locally produced edibles and crafts. Timberlane Organic Farms will be there if you have a yen for a pork roast, bacon, ribs or sausage. You can go to their website and pre-order too. http://www.timberlaneorganicfarms.com/gordon-square-holiday-market.html

Kamms Corners Farmers Market’s final indoor winter market is Sun 12/14 from 10am-1pm at the Cretan Center. They’ll have breads and pastries, jams and jellies, herbs and spices, honey and pasta, local eggs, cheeses, meats and prepared foods. Chef Steve Nikolakis will be serving soup, gyros, burgers and Greek foods, and they’ll have local crafters on hand too. A group of acoustic musicians will be playing holiday music to put you in the shopping mood. To create some other mood — we’re not exactly sure what — they will also have costumed members of the West Park Star Trek Federation Fan Club.

The LEAF Community Holiday Market takes place Tue 12/16 @ 5:30-8pm at the Garfield Middle School 13114 Detroit Road in Lakewood. They’ll have local poduce, baked goodies, crafts, gifts and copies of their own cookbook LEAF Cooks: Recipes From the Community, featuring recipes by local food lovers.

And remember: the Downtown Farmers Market at the 5th Street Arcades (Fri 12/12 @ 11am-2pm) the North Union Market at Shaker Square (Sat 12/13 @ 9am-1pm), the North Union Market at Crocker Park (Sat 12/13 @ 8-noon) and the Coit Market (Sat 12/13 @ 8am-1pm) continue keep in through the winter and have plenty of goodies that make nice presents.
