The annual Woodchoppers Ball at the Kent Stage, now in its 12th year, is a feast for serious guitar lovers. It brings together an impressive area of fingerstyle players who have both serious technical chops and a musical ear that offers something for listeners who aren’t strictly guitar freaks.

The event is organized by Cleveland fingerstyle guitarist Brian Henke, who is one of the many players on the bill. There are a number of returnees from last years event, including Chicago’s Muriel Anderson (pictured), Helen Avakian from upstate New York, Michael Kelsey out of Indiana, South Carolina’s Roger Hardin, and Atlanta’s James McKinney with Niki Portman. Columbus-based Kelly Zullo, a newcomer who plays an aggressive, percussive funky style of guitar, Indiana native Patrick Woods, and father-and-son guitar-and-fiddle duo Tim and Myles Thompson are also on this year’s showcase. Folksinger Charley Brown hosts.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $28 at the door. The event is a benefit for the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless.
