Waterband Brings Back Its Original Lineup for One Night at Jilly’s in Akron

It used to be a band existed for a couple of years, and then vanished into the sands of time. Now it seems like no band ever goes away.

Last year, eternal hippie and good-vibes kid Dreadlock Dave McDougald dissolved his longtime band Waterband, which had been a mainstay on the local jam scene since 2000. After nearly 13 good years, McDougald decided to focus on a new band called Stoned & Beautiful and his family-oriented project with singer/songwriter Michael Rotman, Big Ship.

For one night, though, the old Waterband is coming back, featuring the early lineup that recorded the band’s first two CDs. Basically this just means that McDougald and drummer John Smith, also of Stoned and Beautiful, will be playing with guitarist Rick Phillips again for the first time in 10 years.

And since two-thirds of that lineup is also two-thirds of Stoned & Beautiful, guess who’s opening the show, taking place at Jilly’s Music Room in downtown Akron? You guessed it … Smith and McDougald will have a long evening, while Phillips and S&B guitarist Josh Laird will have time to hang out at the bar and visit with fans.

Admission is $10.
