The Admirables Bring Soulful Sounds to @GrogShop

The Admirables haven’t been on the scene that long, but they’re already shaking things up on the local music scene, much like band leader/frontman/sax player Nathan Davis’s other band Wesley Bright & the Hi-lites have been doing.

With their smooth chops and their mostly instrumental soul-funk sound redolent of the ’70s, they’re pretty easy to like, so they’re starting to rack up significant gigs like the Heights Music Hop, where they attracted so many listeners at Brennan’s Colony that many of them had to stand out on the sidewalk.

They haven’t released a lot of music yet, but they’ve posted a track on Bandcamp called “It’s Gonna Be Alright,” if you want to give a listen. With the dedication “For Michael Brown, for Trayvon Martin, and their families, their loved ones and communities, for anyone who has fallen victim to hatred and bigotry, for us all, It’s Gonna Be Alright!” you have to admire (no pun intended) their optimism but after the events of this past weekend, you’ve got to wonder.

The Admirables will be headlining their own show at the Grog Shop Thanksgiving weekend. They’ll be bringing along a friend, emcee Ahptimus Prime, to spice up their sound and ad some variety.

Twizz opens. Admission is $8.
