Slayer Rages Into @ClevelandAgora Theater

Slayer

Tue 12/2 @ 6:30

What more can you say about the mighty Slayer? The California thrash metal quartet has been raging since 1981, reaching its pinnacle of power with classic albums like 1986’s Reign in Blood and 1988’s South of Heaven. Often a lightning rod for the censorship- minded because of its vividly violent and nihilistic lyrics, the band — with impeccable timing — released its 8th studio album, God Hates Us All, on 9/11/01.

Despite the death last year of founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman (who had been unable to play with them since 2011) and the firing yet again of founding drummer Dave Lombardo, original members vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King are keeping the thrash flag flying with drummer Paul Bostaph (on his third stint with the group) and guitarist Gary Holt, who has been with the group since 2011.

They’re out on the road with two other veteran bands who remain heavy after all these years: fellow California thrashers Exodus, formed one year before Slayer, with a list of former members it would take half the day to recount, including Bostaph, and Los Angeles hardcore/punk/thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, fronted by only remaining original member Mike Muir.

The trio of headbangers will be at the Agora Theater. Tickets are $39.50 in advance, $45 at the door.
