The family-owned Mulberry Creek Herb Farm in Huron has been supplying an array of unusual organic herbs to gardeners in northeast Ohio and beyond since 1999. Since they quit doing mail order in 2009, they’ve increased and diversified their activities at their home base — keeping fall hours, expanding their fairy-garden line of plants and accessories, ramping up their CSA program, and holding more special events like their Home for the Holidays Open House taking place this weekend inside their main greenhouse.
It’s a great chance to get some holiday shopping done. In addition to plants of various types to bring a sweet smell to your homeover the winter, there will be things like jewelry, pottery, soaps and scarves made by local artisans, as well as food offerings including organic beef and pork.
There will also be classes, including one on how to cook with those herbs you bought here last spring at noon each day and one on needle felting at 2pm each day. On Saturday at 1pm you can learn to make a door swag, with materials costing $35; on Sunday at 1pm you can make some herbal mustard at $5.
The open house is free.
