Jazz Singer @BarbaraRosene Performs @BluJazzAkron

Barbara

Fri 11/21 @ 7:30 & 9:30PM

Cleveland native and John Carroll grad Barbara Rosene moved to New York City nearly two decades ago, where she carved out a niche for herself in vocal jazz specializing in early 20th century pop music interpretations, especially from the ’20s and ’30s. She’s performed with the Woody Allen Jazz Band, the late Les Paul, and Vince Giordano and still tours with the Harry James band.

She’s also made seven albums of her own, including her most recent Nice and Naughty, filled with sassy tunes from the 20s like “Glad Rag Doll,” “Don’t Take That Black Bottom Away,” “Do What You Did Last Night,” and “You’re the Cream in my Coffee.” Her plush, purring voice beautifully captures that era’s sensibility while not sounding frozen in amber.

Rosene is coming back home to northeast Ohio to perform at the new Blu Jazz nightclub in Akron. She’ll be accompanied by two of the area’s most adept and versatile jazz musicians — bassist Peter Dominguez and pianist Jackie Warren.

And Warren will perform a solo set from 11pm-midnight after Rosene is done for the night owls who want another drink and a little more music.

Admission is $10.
