Multi-National Belcea Quarter Plays for Cleveland Chamber Music Society

BelceaQuartet

Tue 10/21 @ 7:30PM

The Belcea String Quartet was founded 20 years ago at London’s Royal College of Music by an international group of musicians, including the two remaining founding members, Romanian group leader, violinist Corina Belcea and Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski.

As the original British cofounders moved on, they were replaced by a pair of French musicians, vioinist Axel Schacher and cellist Antoine Lederlin. The group’s musical range is as diverse as their nationalities, touching on repertoire classics by composers Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert, as well as brand-new contemporary pieces. Still based in London, they are quartet in residence at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where they teach.

When they play at the Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights as part of the Cleveland Chamber Music Society’s 2014-2015 concert series, the program will include Mozart’s Quartet in F Major and Brahms’ Quartet in C minor, along with Alban Berg’s modernistic Lyric Suite, composed in the ’20s.

Tickets are $30.
