To many people, singer/songwriter Marc Cohn’s entire career was summed up by his 1991 hit “Walking in Memphis,” which netted him the Grammy for Best New Artist. The compelling song, which explored the spiritual power of music, has had a long afterlife. The Cleveland native, who moved to Los Angeles during college, was already in his 30s and a seasoned musician by the time he released the self-titled debut album that contained that song. But he never had another hit of that magnitude.

His releases have been sparse since then. His last album was 2010’s Listening Booth 1970 featuring covers of songs that were out that year, which he considered a formative year in his musical development. They range from Cat Stevens’ “Wild World,” to Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed” to Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” to Smokey Robinso & the Miracles’ “Tears of a Clown.”

He still performs occasionally, and he’ll be back in his hometown to play at the Music Box Supper Club. Lorain County’s Rachel Brown, one of the area’s best alterative country/Americana-style vocalists, opens.

Tickets are $38 in advance, $42 day of show. The club opens for dinner at 6pm.
