Singer Dave Atkins and his band the New Salem Witch Hunters have been bringing their sweaty, low-rent garage rock to audiences in Cleveland and beyond for nearly three decades, long before bands like the White Stripes made it trendy all over again. A couple of records in the ’90s for Pittsburgh garage rock label Get Hip. mostly notably Hot Sauce & Happenings, released in 1996, carried their gospel far from northeast Ohio and into the record collections of garage-rock cultists.
They’ve remained sporadically active, and they’ll be playing Halloween night at the Beachland Tavern with additional music courtesy of DJs Mr. Fishtruck and Get Hip Recordings founder Gregg Kostelich. Expect to hear plenty of obscure garage-rock gems.
