Vocalist Mark Lanegan first became known to music fans as the vocalist for Screaming Trees, one of the seminal bands in the foundation of the famed Seattle grunge sound in the mid-late 80s. Less bludgeoning than some of their compatriots like Mudhoney, they showcased the multiple influences that went into that sound.

Even before the band had run its course in 2000, Lanegan had released four solo albums showcasing his battered voice and world-weary songs. Since then he’s released another five, including this year’s Phantom Radio, done a stint in Queens of the Stone Age, made three albums with Belle & Sebastian singer Isobel Campbell and collaborated with equally battered and world-weary Afghan Whigs singer Greg Dulli in the appropriately named Gutter Twins. That’s a hell of a journey, demonstrating that Lanegan’s musical range and flexibility could be a reason for his staying power.

He’s on the road with his band to showcase the new album, as well as his older material. He’ll be at the Grog Shop with Cleveland’s Cobra Verde and Lyenn.

Tickets are $25.
