ENDORSEMENT: Armond Budish for County Executive

To say the Cuyahoga County Executive race involves the filling of small shoes would be an understatement. And in the persons of Republican Jack Schron and Democrat Armond Budish, county voters have the task of choosing between two candidates who are (at best) just barely capable of stepping into Ed FitzGerald’s lilliputian loafers.

Budish is a longtime Democratic apparatchik who built his political career running infomercials portraying himself a legal advocate for seniors. He briefly served — with little distinction — as Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives and just this year decided to introduce a flurry of doomed “bills of the month” in the Ohio House in hopes that such inconsequential activity would pass for political vision and effectiveness.

Schron’s only political experience has been as a member of the part-time Cuyahoga County Council, which ranks second only to FitzGerald himself in terms of being the biggest political flop of the past four years. He vows to serve two terms if elected — something that sounds more like a threat than a promise.

There is little to choose from between these two. However, the fact that Schron was the only member of County Council to support the union-busting Senate Bill 5 and also backs the Republican agenda to squelch voter turnout is more than enough to disqualify him to head a county that has consistently supported union and voting rights.

You forgot about the fact that Schron was president of the Chagrin Falls school board. When he was elected, there were only 3 advanced placement courses. When he left, there were 28. Show me where Budish has accomplished anything at all with his “political experience.”

Unless I am mistaken, education is one of the problems around here.
