Fri 10/17 @ 7 & 9PM

Jazz bandleader William “Count” Basie has been gone for 30 years, but his music lives on. It would be hard to overstate his significance to big band music. With his band, which he led from 1935 until nearly his death, he created music that was both challenging and popular and mentored a series of significant musicians.

The Count Basie Orchestra continues to perform, sharing his legacy with new generations of jazz fans, although obviously the musicians have changed. The current music director is trumpeter Scotty Barnhart, a professor at Florida State University’s College of Music, who has been with the group since 1993. He was only 20 when Basie died.

The Count Basie Orchestra will perform two shows at Nighttown. Tickets are $40.
