.@UnitedWayCLE ‘s Campaign Kickoff Moves From Public Square to the Classroom #uwclekickoff

United Way of Greater Cleveland decided to kick off their 2014 campaign in a new way. Instead of serving pancakes on Public Square, they did something even better — served pancakes in the classroom. United Way flipped pancakes and served breakfast for approximately 8,500 students in 17 Cleveland Metropolitan School District investment schools, reminding the community of its mission to graduate more kids. Each elementary students also received a book.

And, in another different move, United Way didn’t announce a monetary goal.

“We want our community to understand United Way’s mission includes raising money, but it extends far beyond that,” said United Way President and CEO Bill Kitson. “We should be measured by the number of kids who graduate the families who are financially stable and the overall health of our community. This is the point we want to make by not announcing a dollar goal.”

It’s just another example of how United Way helps our community.
