Noted Music Writer Greil Marcus Speaks @RockHallLibrary

Tue 9/23 @ 7PM

Greil Marcus is one of the best known rock writers and one of the few who has made a career out of it over four decades.

That’s in large part because he doesn’t just write about the music itself. Rather, in much-lauded books like Mystery Train and Lipstick Traces, he placed it into a social, economic and cultural context, talking about how it reflects and is reflects by the society around it and how it relates to other creative output. He’s also written books about the Doors and Bob Dylan and edited a numerous anthologies.

His latest book, just published, is titled The History of Rock ’N’ Roll in Ten Songs. If you’re curious to hear how he can pull off such a feat — and do so by choosing and analyzing songs that aren’t standard repertoire — come down to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Library and Archives, where he’ll read from his book, be interviewed by Rock Hall vice president Dr. Lauren Onkey, and take questions from the audience.

The program is free, but seating is limited so go here to make a reservation.
