Introducing Yarn Inspired by Cleveland Neighborhoods

By Sarah Valek

Yarn is big now. Anyone who’s into knitting or crocheting knows about yarn junkies — those people who are completely, totally obsessed with everything yarn.

Well, yarn junkies can now rejoice — Lakewood’s River Colors Studios is starting its own yarn club. Known as the Colors of Cleveland Yarn Club, this club won’t only supply you with new yarn each month, it’ll choose yarn based on the colors of Cleveland neighborhoods. How cool is that.

Yarn club members will receive a hank of fingering weight yarn each month dyed by SpaceCadet Creations in an exclusive original colorway created by Rachel Metz of River Colors Studio, who is currently a candidate for a BFA in Textile Design at Kent State University. There will be 12 neighborhood represented.

“When I visit places, I think in color — a place has a personality and a color,” says Metz in a River Colors email. Her inspiration for the Colors of Cleveland is “definitely a combination of the events, businesses, people and culture,” of the neighborhoods of Cleveland.

“Each neighborhood has a personality and I’m trying to translate that into color.”

The yarn club runs on a subscription basis and you can cancel any time. The cost is $33/month. Join today and discover the many colors of Cleveland.
