Jesse Dee is one of a horde of contemporary singers reaching back to when pop music was more romantic and full of soul. Combining Brill Building songwriting chops with a passion for the ache of early ’6os R&B a la Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and Jackie Wilson. Dee built an enthusiastic following in his New England home base (he’s from Boston), releasing an independent CD Bittersweet Batch in 2008.
He’s already well-travelled, having done several European tours. But with his signing last year to Chicago-based blues label Alligator, he’s ascended to another level. That label has the muscle to get his debut album for it, On My Mind, In My Heart, to more receptive ears in more places.
He’ll be coming to Cleveland for a show at the Music Box Supper Club. Best of all, it’s free.
