Akron Gypsy Folk Band The Help Releases New CD @AkronCivic

Fri 9/19 @ 8PM

There must be something wild and restless in Akron’s air. The Help are the second hybrid band from there to use the word “gypsy” in their self-description. (The other is the Angie Haze Project).

The Help, built on the core duo of guitarist/pianist Brian Feltner and cornet/accordion/musical saw player Steven Bennett, describes themselves as “rag-tag, nitty-gritty, down and dirty,” and they season their folk blues with klezmer and other eastern European music.

They’ve been adding more original tunes to their offbeat repertoire, and now they’re ready to show them off. They’re releasing their second CD, Prime, with a show at the Akron Civic Theatre as part of its intimate cabaret Club @ the Civic series. There they’ll be joined by some friends: rising local Americana singer Rebekah Jean, Nick Wilkinson & the Featured Players, and comedian/MC Willis Gordon.

Tickets are $15 or two for $25.
