Maybe we’ll have an Indian summer to make up for this year’s long, cold winter. But it’s never smart to count on it. So you might want to spent Labor Day weekend hanging out down by the water and catching some free local music while you can.
The Music Box Supper Club is hosting a four-day shindig its calling the Smoke on the Water Labor Day Music Festival. On Friday, swamp-rock party band Cats on Holiday will be playing. Saturday it’s for the jam-band crowd — a summer bunch — when the JiMiller Band and Syrup play. And Sunday the music will be provided by reggae band Outlaws I & I (pictured) and the funky Backstage Politics, the winners of this years HighSchool Rock Off. It all wraps up on Monday with the Joe Moorhead Band who play laidback “island” music ala Jack Johnson or Dave Matthews.
Admission is free, and they’ll be deviating from their regular menu to cook up some barbecue. That’s the “smoke” part; the water is the river just outside their door.
