REVIEW: Anne E. DeChant in Cleveland @MusicBoxCle @AnneEDeChant @GG9Cleveland #GoAllOut

Some lucky Clevelanders had the pleasure of witnessing Anne E. DeChant, one of Cleveland’s great treasures that got away, not once but twice this weekend. First, as she and her band rocked The Q for the Gay Games Opening Ceremonies, then the next morning for the inaugural event at Cleveland’s hottest new music venue and restaurant, the Music Box Supper Club. In both cases, she left everyone smiling, stamping their feet and begging for more.
We were happy to see that Anne E. brought her full band to The Q, while all the other performers (even the Pointer Sisters) were singing along with a backing track. Needless to say, Anne E. stood out with her powerful and heroic anthems, blowing everyone else off the stage with her riveting stage presence and soaring vocal delivery. Anne E. has grown up since she moved from Cleveland to Nashville a few years ago. Where did she learn to rock an arena like that?
She even had a chance to preview a new song, “Girls and Airplanes,” certainly destined to be one of her best, about the factory work done by Rosie the Riveter and all the millions of young women who helped fight WWII by building ships, tanks and aircraft in the factories back home. The kicker: Cleveland is name checked as the prototypical factory town that attracted those girls who were determined to contribute by breaking out of the world they grew up in. The song received a huge ovation from the 15,000 strong at The Q, and by popular request, she sang it again the next morning at the intimate Music Box Supper Club.

from “Girls and Airplanes,” by Anne E. DeChant:
Never shut up, never give in, never gonna keep our feet on the ground again
Never back down, or give up our dreams
Never forget we can do anything
Girls and airplanes…
We came to Cleveland, because we heard the call
Fought our way through the sweat and pain
Didn’t we push thought it all
Oh look what’s possible, oh look, we’re free
The sky’s the limit, just wait and see
Anne E. DeChant performs around Cleveland for the next few days, including a gig supporting The Indigo Girls at Lock 3 Live on Thu 8/14 at 5:30PM. View her site for a complete list of performances, more music and photos.
