Pitbulls: Guilty ‘Til Proven Innocent?

Sun 4/28 @ 2:30pm

Do we have a dangerous dog breed problem or just dangerous laws targeting dogs? That is the question being asked in Guilty ‘Til Proven Innocent, a new film created by local filmmakers Jeff Theman and Bryan Porter that will host its world premiere @ the Capitol Theatre.

Director/producer Jeff Theman made the film after Lakewood City Council proposed to ban “Pit Bull” terriers within city limits, all the while he, a Lakewood resident, was set to adopt a rescued pit bull. When the ban took place, Theman decided to ditch Lakewood (rather than his dog) and continue making the film — except the focus wasn’t just on Lakewood (though Lakewood makes up 1/3 of the movie), but on breed-specific legislation (BSL) itself and its affects on both innocent people and dogs.

Think pit bulls are all vicious? Go see this film and maybe change your mind. The screening is hosted by Badges for Bullies, a group started by several Cleveland Police Officers dedicated to “ridding the community of animal cruelty and underground dog fighting operations.” Tickets are $10.
