VIDEO: SmartHome Saves 90% On Energy

David Beach of CMNH’s GreenCityBlueLake

When David Beach’s GreenCityBlueLake Institute merged with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History a few years ago, they started dreaming about a project that would showcase energy efficiency in a tangible way. Now open for tours, PNC SmartHome Cleveland has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Without a furnace, even through tough Cleveland winters, the SmartHome’s energy bills will be 10% of a normal home’s, all the while providing a safe, comfortable and green living environment. Watch the video interview with Beach as he points out the super-insulated, 12-inch-thick wall system, triple-pane windows & doors, and advanced stormwater techniques, and even the sustainable art work, which will be auctioned off when then home is moved to it’s permanent location on Wade Park Avenue this Fall, to be inhabited by a lucky family who will purchase the SmartHome. The only home in the US built using passive house methodology will be on view for public tours through Fri 10/7 with an accompanying exhibition Climate Change opening Sat 7/23 running through the end of the year.
