Big Ideas

There’s no shortage. Never has been. But maybe nowadays, we’re more open to considering the big ideas to move our region forward. Even faster than it’s already moving.

Belt Out and Hot Dog U, organized by some of Cleveland’s coolest people, including CC columnist Richie Piiparinen, plan to lay down the gauntlet along with the good ideas. Here’s hoping you pick up one or both.

The Ubermensch is a concept so Cleveland that it’s a wonder it has taken till now for a local exhibition to explore the concept more fully. Four local bands are playing a benefit for the Grog’s John Neely, Megan Zurkey debuts her new release at Mahall’s, and we’ve got our eye on the High School Rock Off, for obvious reasons.

Other big ideas this week include opening roller derby to younger girls, finding inner peace in Akron, talking the talk with your kids at CMNH, career help from the iCleveland career showcase, locals playing a house concert, a fresh, local food market, and new scripts at CPT’s Dark Room series.

Another priceless Cool Cleveland t-shirt is awarded for going mobile with CC, and our #Hashtag Contest throws our spotlight wherever you think it should be. Now there’s a big idea. –Thomas Mulready

All Hail Ubermensch
Artists Explore the “Underdog Superman”

It’s no secret that Superman was created right here in Cleveland. However, the idea of the “Ubermensch” or “over man” was the brainchild of Friedrich Nietzsche in 1883.

While there is no clear consensus on a specific definition, over a dozen local artists will explore the concept this weekend at Doubting Thomas gallery in Tremont…
