Adventures

Without a sense of adventure, life, even in Cleveland, is boring. So we hope you’re getting out and exploring the world, including your own backyard.

Jared Bendis is off on his excellent adventure to France, documenting 100 castles & monuments in 30 days; watch video of him and his cool quadcopter on E. 4th. Susan Petrone interviews playwright David Hansen as his Double Heart makes one last appearance in Cle before heading on an adventure to NYC’s Int’l Fringe Fest. Hollie Gibbs talks with the bawdy one-woman band Miss Firecracker as she prepares to blow a few minds.

Public servant C. Ellen Connally offers a bit of political namesmanship, Mansfield comments on fatherhood, Bert Stratton & Ralph Solonitz reminisce on taxis & vinyl, and Joe Baur explains why the experience of the suburbs is different from an adventure in the city. Usually. –Thomas Mulready

From Castles to Crepes

Are you kidding me?

Intrepid castle hunter, photographer, filmmaker, artist, teacher and gadgeteer Jared Bendis plans to visit 100 monuments & castles in 4 weeks, an unbelievable pace.

With his hi-tech gadget bag, including a four-bladed quadcopter, he plans to photograph and create a feature-length film to be screened locally and produced on Blu Ray & DVD & available online.

If you dig what Jared is doing, you can help by visiting his GoFundMe page and kicking in to help him cover costs on his European adventure (he’s taking no pay).

Watch the video as Jared explains his multi-year project, and even gives a test flight of his quadcopter right on E. 4th Street.

Sun 7/7 at 7pm is your last chance to check out Double Heart before it heads to the New York Fringe Festival.

Double Heart is an imagined prequel to Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing that envisions the early courtship of Beatrice and Benedick, providing a fascinating back story to Shakepeare’s timeless tale. Written in poetic verse, the play is a celebration of great characters and enthralling language.

Cool Cleveland correspondent Susan Petrone talks with playwright David Hansen about the production.

Cleveland Public Library is rockin’ the garden with raucous rhythms produced entirely on recycled “instruments” ranging from plastic buckets to metal trash cans. One of the first lessons we learn in our society is that we can’t have it both ways. For example, you can’t enjoy excessive amounts of cake without expecting to gain excessive amounts of weight.

The exception to this rule in Greater Cleveland has been that you can move to the suburbs and exurbs and still receive the same convenience and courtesy as those of us living in the city…

Miss Firecracker
Cle’s salacious one-woman band

This Fourth of July season, while your buns are toasting and your dogs are getting hot, don’t risk bottle rockets blowing off important appendages; instead let Miss Firecracker do the blowing (and tapping and strumming) for you.

The salacious one-woman band has been playing with herself for more than five years now, and if she makes you blush, flush, or chuckle she has done her job…
