80s Blue-Collar Rocker Willie Nile Resurfaces at the Winchester in Lakewood

Wed 4/11 @ 8PM

Music fans from the early ’80s may remember Willie Nile, a dynamic performer from Buffalo, New York. He was one of a small horde playing gritty, blue-collar rock who were being promoted as “the next Springsteen.” Many of these had talent and energy to burn even without that label, and Nile, who released his self-titled debut in 1980, was one of them.

Despite a tour opening to the Who that year, his career derailed over legal problems and never really got back into high gear, although he’s continued to write and perform, releasing nearly a dozen live and studio albums in the new century and performing with a long list of heavy-hitters from Ringo Starr to Tori Amos to Springsteen himself. His latest, 2017’s Positively Bob: Willie Nile Sings Bob Dylan, pays tribute to the real wellspring of all those “new Springsteens.”

Nile will be performing at the Winchester in Lakewood. Tickets are $20-$35.
