Attention Artists! Attend the Public Meeting of Cuyahoga Arts & Culture at Ensemble Theatre

CACMeeting

Mon 4/17 @ 4PM

Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, which allocates the money raised by the art and culture levy, is looking at changes to its various grant programs, including its operating support for arts and culture organizations, its project support for organization looking to do arts and culture related special projects, and its individual support, formerly the Creative Workforce Fellowships.

It was the last that provoked an outcry when, late last year, CAC announced that it was again shrinking the size of the grants while planning to award them based not on artistic merit but on addressing community problems and issues. Artists organized and flooded CAC’s meetings, and they put the changes on hold.

While CAC has the money set aside for some kind of individual artist grants, they still haven’t revealed what those will look like. It’s important to keep the pressure up and not let them think the arts community will get bored and go away. Their next bi-monthly meeting takes place at Ensemble Theatre in Cleveland Heights (alas it conflicts with Dyngus Day). It is open to the public.

  1. Thanks for sharing about CAC’s upcoming Board meeting. Our work to continue to provide meaningful public support to artists in Cuyahoga County continues in earnest. CAC aims to have a proposal at the September 2017 board meeting for new, community-informed approaches to support Cuyahoga County artists, in line with our mission. There will be a brief update at Monday’s Board meeting, but as anticipated, no Board action at this business meeting. For more information on what to expect at Monday’s meeting, please see http://www.cacgrants.org/media-room/news/post/what-to-expect-at-cac-s-april-board-meeting-grant-guidelines-support-for-artists-and-more. Questions? Please contact us at 216-515-8303 or info@cacgrants.org. -Jake S. (Manager, Communications & Special Projects, CAC)
