Guitarist/vocalist/ songwriter Patrick Sweany has travelled a long way from his native Massillon. He’s toured across the country multiple times (with frequent stops in northeast Ohio), and he’s currently settled in Nashville.

His new album, Ancient Noise, his eighth, was recorded in another Tennessee city — Memphis, with its rich musical tradition. And it was recorded in the studio built by one of rock & roll’s creators, Sam Phillips, in the 1970s. Ancient Noise brings together influences from rock, blues, folk, country and even New Orleans-style fun.

There’s another northeast Ohio connection too. Playing bass on the album is Sweany’s longtime sidekick Ted Pecchio, originally from the Warren area. Former Wilco drummer Ken Commer completes the rhythm section.

Sweany and band will share the new music with local fans at a pair of local release shows. He’ll play at the Music Box in Cleveland on Thu 5/10 where Ray Flanagan opens and at Musica in Akron on Sat 5/12 with Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons opening. Tickets are $12 in advance to each show, $15 at the door.
