Lakewood Alive Hosts Forum on Welcoming & Supporting Refugees

Wed 5/10 @ 7-9PM

One of northeast Ohio’s most diverse communities is Lakewood where residents come from dozens of countries and students come from homes where more than 50 different languages are spoken.

So it’s a natural place to hold a community forum like “From Refugee to Neighbor Part 2: Understanding Public Policy and Community Impact” taking place at the Lakewood Congregational Church sanctuary. It follows a previous forum held in November 2015, but a lot has changed them regarding attitudes toward refugees in the U.S.

David Dombrowiak of the Community West Foundation will moderate a panel that includes Thomas Kate and Patrick Kearns of the Refugee Response; Tom Mrosko , Director of the Migration and Refugee Services of Cleveland Catholic Charities; Janus Small, facilitator of the Refugee Services Collaborative of Greater Cleveland; and Brian Upton of Building Hope in the City.

The forum is free and all are invited to attend to learn about the role Lakewood plays in resettling refugees, how public policy can help or hinder refugee resettlement and how refugees can be supported. There will be a Q&A session after the panel discussion.
