However Cleveland’s unpredictable spring weather turns out, the rhythms should be smokin’ hot at the Grog Shop when Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S Band and Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors share the stage.
Clevelanders of course are familiar with — and in love with — Carlos Jones, who has been spreading the good reggae vibes with his P.L.U.S. Band for more than two decades, and for another two decades before that with I-Tal and First Light.
Now once again he’s hooking up with Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors, heading this way from the Pittsburgh area to share the bill. Percussionist Donovan was a member of that city’s popular world music-influenced rock band Rusted Root for more than a decade, a key element in its rhythm-based sound. His current band builds on the hypnotic, trancey grooves that made Rusted Root so appealing. And he’s got a new album available called We See Through It.
Each of these bands will be filling the dance floor with swaying people in a state of ecstasy. Tickets are $10 in advance, $14 at the door.
