Ubiquitous Cleveland musician and sparkplug Brent Kirby has been hosting his weekly 10 x 3 songwriter/band showcases at Brothers Lounge in Cleveland for the past six and a half years. The curated weekly events feature ten acts performing three songs, at least two of them original. In that time 1500 different artists — mostly from Northeast Ohio with an occasional touring act thrown into the mix — have played.
Now he’ll be expanding the showcases to Jilly’s Music Room in downtown Akron on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, starting Wed 1/3. As with the Cleveland events, the performers are scheduled ahead of time with time slots announced in advance.
Kirby sees the events as catalysts for relationship and collaborations.
“Over the years, I have seen relationships made at the 10 x 3 between musicians and supporters that have spilled over into other aspects of what people do,” He says. “It’s about connecting people, which is why I think the Akron/Cleveland kinship is so important.”
Kirby will host the Akron showcases, while songwriters Jason Meyers and Ray Flanagan will host the Cleveland 10 x 3 in alternate weeks.
