Luck 11.19-11.26.14

Luck

If it was luck, we’d be screwed. No, there’s something else going on around here that’s responsible for our recent good fortune. Hard work? Sure. I’ll take that over luck any day. Karma? Certainly our region’s got it coming. Wits? Common sense? Our stunning good looks? Whatever it is, it’s anything but luck.

You’d be lucky to get to everything we’ve cued up for you this week: Near West doing JC Superstar as they get ready to make their big move to Gordon Square; the dude abiding at 78th Street; Cleveland Vegan opening in Lakewood, and Creative Fusion artist-in-residence Pablo Serra Marino of Chile mounting, ”You Will Find Luck When You Go Home” at Cleveland Print Room.

Akron’s Shivering Timbers opens for Robyn Hitchcock at the Music Box, Can Journal launches their winter issue at Artist Archives, jazz singer Barbara Rosene appears at Akron’s BLU Jazz, and the Cleveland Flea’s Holiday Market pops up at MidTown Tech Park. For more, check our up-to-date ShopLOCAL listings on your desktop, laptop or any mobile device here. Just don’t leave it to luck. –Thomas Mulready

CoolCleveland Correspondent Marty Bielat got the details from Zygote’s Executive Director, Liz Maugans. Liz told us all about the type of the equipment needed to complete the extension, and how people can donate on their KickStarter Campaign to show their support. Keep up the good work Zygote — CoolCleveland’s got your back!

During his time here in Cleveland, Pablo has been working with students in the art program at St. Martin De Porres.

It was a whirlwind of innovation last week as students from CMSD’s Cleveland School of Architecture and Design took part in the annual “Give Me Shelter” challenge at Case Western Reserve University. The challenge, designed to get students motivated into thinking critically and creatively, challenged participants to design disaster shelters from pipe cleaners, balloons and other objects.

The project’s designer, Cleveland architect Judson Kline, and others taught the students the basics of design throughout the past couple weeks and put them to the test at the challenge. While the objects they used may have been small, the ideas were large.
