Rape is one of the least reported crimes and the hardest to prosecute and win a conviction, facts that are probably related. But the DNA testing of rape kits holds promise to make at least a small dent in that failure to hold perpetrators responsible.
The next program at the monthly Science Café at the Music Box Supper Club is called “To Catch a Criminal: The use of DNA testing in criminal investigations.” Forensic scientist Emily Feldenkris of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will talk about the techniques it’s used to analyze more than 12,000 kits since 2012, leading to numerous successful prosecutions. She’ll talk about what such analyze can and can’t tell scientists.
The program starts at 7pm and is free. Doors open at 5:30 PM, with a limited menu available.
