Playwrights Local Debuts “The Panther Dancer” by Rising Playwright Logan Cutler Smith

Logan Cutler Smith

Fri 5/11-Sat 5/26

Logan Cutler Smith earned his MFA in creative writing from Cleveland State in 2016, after earning an undergrad degree in theater. So playwriting seems like a nature avenue for him. In 2015, he had plays staged by convergence-continuum, in Tremont and Playwrights Local in the Waterloo Arts District.

He returns to the stage of Playwrights Local, whose mission is specifically to encourage up-and-coming new local playwrights, with The Panther Dancer. It’s described as “an innovative new play that digs deep beneath the iconicity of a childlike American star. A series of inventive vignettes, this knowing parody follows a young wonder as he strives to become, in his own person, the very greatest show on earth. Tracing the arc of his campaign, the play becomes a playful synthesis of biography and tabloid journalism–a sidelong glance at a meteoric rise and a catastrophic fall.”

Jimmie Woody directs the production which opens Fri 5/11 and runs Thu-Sat @ 7:30PM through Sat 5/26 at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts. Tickets are $12-$18.
