Visit a Local Store on Independent Bookstore Day

Sat 4/28

Been to a local independent bookstore lately? You should go. Sure, you COULD order that book you’ve been meaning to read on Amazon and get it a little cheaper. But once you walk in the door of one of our local bookshops, you’ll probably stumble across more books you MUST have that you didn’t know existed. Plus many of them carry item such as stationery, bookmarks, greeting cards, gift items and locally published books you won’t find elsewhere.

April 28 is the 4th annual Independent Bookstore Day so it’s a great day to stop by that store you’ve been meaning to check out. Haven’t made it out to the new Visible Voice location in Tremont yet? Go! Do you keep driving by Appletree Books in the Cedar-Fairmount district and think “I should stop someday when I’m not in a hurry.” Do it!

Nine Cleveland bookstores are participating in this nationwide event, with games, author events, giveaways and even refreshments you’d better be careful not to spill on the books. As with Record Store Day, there will be merchandise created specially for IBD by major publishers and author.

The participating stores include, in addition to Appletree and Visible Voice, the Learned Owl Book Shop in Hudson, Loganberry Books and Strong Bindery on Larchmere Boulevard Attenson’s Antiques & Books and Mac’s Backs in Coventry Village, Chagrin Falls’ Fireside Book Shop and The Bookseller, Inc. in Akron.

Pick up an Independent Bookstore Day passport at any one of the locations to learn all there is to do at each stop.  Visit every store and have your passport stamped on April 28th to earn a prize at your final stop.  Every stores offerings will be as unique at the store itself.
