A Tip of the Hat to the Sold-Out Rock Hall Inductions

Although both the live event at Public Hall and the broadcast at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum are sold out, we’d be remiss if we didn’t at least mention that the Rock Hall inductions are taking place in Cleveland this evening, as they will be every other year going forward.

This class isn’t the most impressive they’ve ever had, especially sad given that monumentally influential bands like Kraftwerk, Can, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails and Alice in Chains are still waiting. While it’s hard to argue with Nina Simone and Rosette Tharpe being inducted as influences (but good lord, when are they going to induct Patsy Cline already?), the induction of Bon Jovi, the Cars and especially Dire Straits seems based on “they sold a lot of records for a while.” As for the Moody Blues, as the band that did break ground for the melting of rock and classical music and point the way toward prog rock, they’ve earned their spot.

If you want to be part of the evening’s excitement and don’t have a ticket to the ceremony, take a nap and then head on down to the House of Blues where DJ Questlove of the Roots will be doing a three-hour DJ set at the official afterparty. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door.
