Cleveland’s No Exit New Music Ensemble is back with a series of spring concerts and another batch of contemporary music that explores terrain unfamiliar to most audiences.

They’ll be bringing back one of the first pieces they commissioned Derrik Balogh’s string trio, “Fantasie: si tu veux.” They’ll also perform two pieces by clarinetist/composer Evan Ziporyn: “Tsmindao Ghmerto,” in which the performer singers and plays clarinet at the same time, “Four Impersonations,” which features influences from Japanese, Balinese incorporates elements of Balinese, Japanese and East African music. Victoria Cheah’s “We waited for each other on aim” is also on the program. And they’ll be premiering “Ved sjøen” (By the Sea) by American composer Christopher Stark inspired by time he spent in Norway.

No Exit will be joined by the saxophone and drum duo of Noa Even and Stephen Klunk aka Patchwork (pictured) to perform the world premiere of a piece they commissioned by Israeli-born composer Osnat Netzer called “Zwang und Zweifel”

They’ll perform the concert at SPACES Gallery on Fri 4/27, at Cleveland State University’s Drinko Auditorium on Mon 4/30 and at Heights Arts on Sat 5/5. All the concerts are free and open to the public.
