It’s another pulling back of the curtain of sorts for the Kalman & Pabst Photo Group.

Cleveland’s premier commercial photography, video and CGI studio, which is currently celebrating a 30thanniversary, hosts the seventh biennial, staff-curated Fine Art Show April 27 and 28 at its 18,000-square-foot Perkins Avenue venue.

The affair highlights the talented staff’s creativity, with an art gallery featuring more than 400 works of art (photography, painting, illustrations and installations). A portion of the proceeds from the sale goes towards this year’s charity of choice, Flashes of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

CoolCleveland talked to Kalman & Pabst Photo Group Sales & Marketing Director Michelle Loufman about the free art show, which is open to the public.

CoolCleveland: How exciting, the Fine Art Show returns.

Michelle Loufman: What we’re doing is carrying on the tradition of a Fine Arts Show that we started 14 years ago. So it’s just honoring the creativity that comes out of this studio and giving employees a chance to be able to continue to do that while also benefiting and uniting the community. Even though it’s our seventh biennial show, it hasn’t really been well announced. So we thought we need to open it up to the public a little bit more.

CC: This is a pretty unique event for Kalman and Pabst Photo Group.

ML: Exactly, most people don’t even know we’re in the area. We’ve kind of been humming along as this business-to-business visual communications studio for so long. It’s really cool for people to come to Midtown. It’s an industrial area with very unassuming kinds of buildings. To come inside and see this huge studio with the music bumping and there’s drinks and cocktails and people milling about, there’s just a really great energy. So it’s just a great opportunity for us to be able just show people a little bit more about who we are and how we like to spend our time and give back.

CC: How will this show impact Flashes of Hope?

ML: We have 20 percent of the proceeds going to Flashes of Hope. Just to contrast that, the last time the beneficiary was Hunger Network. The equivalent of the sales we raised for them fed 30,000 meals to Northeast Ohio. In addition to the art show, each artist donates a piece of artwork that the public can bid on. The nonprofit will receive 100 percent of all raffle ticket sales.

CC: Just to be clear, attendees should expect the work in this show to rival that of any other local gallery exhibit in Northeast Ohio.

ML: Yes, these are professional artists. This is legitimate artwork done by creative people who have been recognized in the industry for their talents. If you’ve seen an art-house catalog, that’s our work. It’s just amazing the masterpieces they can create for the clients, and for the Art Show how they can take that expertise and create beautiful artwork for the home.
