Jazz Trumpeter Dominick Farinacci & Veteran Jaymes Poling Lead “Modern Warrior” Project @ Nighttown and Blu Jazz +

Thu 4/12 @ 8PM

Sat 4/14 @ 8PM

Jazz trumpeter Dominick Farinacci always seems to be pushing himself on to new collaborations, new projects, new musical ideas, enriching himself as a performer and musician. And luckily, the Cleveland native, who got his start in the Tri-C high school jazz program and then went on to become part of the Juilliard school’s first Jazz Studies class on the recommendation of Wynton Marsalis, comes back home often to share what he’s working on.

This week, he’ll be bringing a theatrical music performance called Modern Warrior, which he co-created with military veteran, Staff Sergeant Jaymes Poling, a Warren, Ohio native. It draws from Poling’s experiences during his three tours of duty in Afghanistan and returning to civilian life to explore the cost of war and the challenge of transitioning from one life to another.

Poling narrates the autobiographical production while Farinacci leads the seven-piece band that backs him up. The musician includes pianist Aman Almeida, guitar Chris George, bassist Jeremiah Napier, drummer Jonathan Winfree, percussionist Anthony Taddeo and guest vocalist Akua Allrich.

The goal of the Modern Warrior initiative is to connect civilians and veterans and promote understanding between the two via live performances, workshops and panel discussions to share veteran stories.

They’ll perform at Nighttown on Thu 4/12. Tickets are $30. They’ll repeat the performance at Blu Jazz + in Akron on Sat 4/14. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
