Israeli Shoe Designer Kobi Levi Brings His Astonishing Creations to The Temple Museum

Sun 4/15 @ 1-4PM

It’s hard to resist writing about an event when you get a picture like the one above. You might not be able to imagine yourself wearing the limited-edition shoes, designed by Israeli designer Kobi Levi, even if you could afford them. They almost look too amazing to wear, like you’d want to show them in a special display case on your wall? You probably won’t be surprised to learn that his creations have been worn by celebrities, including —who else? — Lady Gaga.

The Tel Aviv-based artist will be in Cleveland for a week when The Temple Museum celebrates  Israel’s 70th anniversary with an exhibit of his work accurately called Step Into Art: Footwear Art by Kobi Levi. There will be a special reception for the designer on Sun 4/15 @ 1-4pm with a shoe fashion show at 2pm at the Hartzmark Center at the Temple-Tifereth Israel in Beachwood. The reception is free. The shoes cost a lot.

You are invited to wear “fun shoes” although it’s hard to see how you will outdo Kobi’s. Some of his shoes will be available for purchase with 20% of sales going to The Temple Museum. In addition, you can bring gently used shoes and boots to be given to refugee families in Cleveland.

Kobi will also be doing an art talk at the gallery Mon 4/16 @ 2-3pm, telling the stories behind his shoes. He’ll also be in the gallery Mon 4/16-Fri 4/20 @ 3-5pm to meet visitors and help them “Step into” his shoes.

The show will be on view at The Temple Museum through Fri 7/6.
