Bask in the sounds of Old Cleveland at the 36th annual Super Button Box Bash at the Slovenian Society Home in Euclid.
There the jaunty sound of this form of accordion, which once emanated from eastern European immigrant homes all over Cleveland, will fill two halls, as 50 musicians squeeze their boxes. They include local stars of the instrument Patty C and the Guys, the Polka Hall of Fame’s Button Bx Band of the Year, and Ron Likovic, the Button Box Artist of the Year and Polka Hall of Fame artist Kathy Hlad (pictured).
Doors open at 1pm and music director Cecilia Dolgan will kick off a short program at 3pm. Past members of the Slovenian Junior Chorus, SNPJ Circle No. 2 will gather for an 80th anniversary reunion and a host of ensembles will offer dance music including the Fairport Jammers, the Magic City Button Boxers, the Summit Jammers, the Hoboes, Magic Buttons, Anthony Culkar, Squeeze Play, the Sumrada Brothers, the Polka Pirates and the Button Box Divas.
Got a button box at home you’re itching to take out for a spin? Bring it along for a jam session. Food will be available, and the Polka Hall of Fame will have a pop-up shop with T-shirts and CDs so you can take some of the music home with you.
