Artist Hector Castellanos Lara Talks About His Work at Art House

Fri 4/27 @ 6-7:30PM

Art House’s Community Culture Nights give people the chance to spend some time with a local artist and learn what makes them tick.

This month the artist is Hector Castellanos Lara, and while he’s a perfectly capable English speaker, he will be doing the talk in his native Spanish, with an English translator (unfortunately, he’s not gifted enough to be speaking two languages simultaneously!)

Castellanos Lara is a native of Guatemala which still fuels his work as an “artist in exile.” His father was a commercial painter of murals from the 50s-70s, and his mother was a dressmaker inspired by Guatemalan folk art. So it was almost inevitable that Hector would become an artist himself.

He’s embedded himself deeply in the Cleveland community, working with various arts and culture programs and schools, finding opportunities to showcase Central American and Mexican artists and participating in the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Parade the Circle and Chalk Fest. He’s also the founder of Artistas Latinos Unidos (ALU) which promotes Latin art in Cleveland and is a driving force behind the annual Day of the Dead celebration at Cleveland Public Theatre.

The program includes snacks and beverages. It’s free. You can register here.
