Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, which debuted in 1908, has remained one of his most performed works, beloved for its soaring melodicism.
It’s the centerpiece of the Cleveland Orchestra’s concerts this weekend where it will be accompanied by Francis Poulenc’s Concert champêtre [Pastoral Concerto], which features harpsichord as its solo instrument. Chicago-born harpsichorist Jory Vinikour joins the orchestra for that piece during the Thursday, Saturday and Sunday concerts (On Friday, only the Rachmaninoff will be played.) French conductor Stéphane Denève will be on the podoum,
Tickets are $21-$165.
